FY
2008 2011 Gubernatorial Platform
Illinois' national
ranking in its funding of community
developmental disability programs is
abysmal when compared to the
relative wealth of our state. Data
shows Illinois ranked from 43rd to
50th on the major indicators of per
capita spending, use of small
residential settings and special
education integration.
Unfortunately, we rank sixth in the
use of outdated, inappropriate large
scale residential facilities.
The "Do the Right Thing"
Coalition has been
working over the past 8 years to
influence the Governor and
Legislature to change Illinois'
support of individuals with
developmental disabilities.
For the upcoming 2008 to 2011
term, the Coalition has established
priorities in
Leadership, Funding, Education,
Health Care, Housing, Jobs and Human
Rights. It is our expectation that
these proposals will be considered
and implemented by the Governor and
Legislature during the next four
years.
