A Rockin Love Affair
It
was a hopping good time as Avenues guests were greeted with a
champagne welcome at the Corvette bar, followed by a rock ’n’ roll
menu of appetizers including french fries, mini burgers, hot dogs
and pizza—all butlered about in the grand ballroom by 1950s-clad
servers.
Friends, families, program participants and
supporters gathered at
the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont on February 17
for the 25th
Annual Love Affair gala. Thanks again to Board Member Clarence
Herbst who has so generously supported the Love Affair for more than
17 years, and gifted the agency with yet another $50,000 on this
occasion.
(Board Member and Benefactor Clarence Herbst is
joined by friends Sandra Bowlen, Ann Caddell and Patricia Maroney)
Following a welcome by Avenues Executive Director Bob Okazaki and
Chairman Richard Brayer, guests dined and had the opportunity to
peruse the hundreds of items on the silent auction tables including
jewelry, sporting goods, entertainment tickets, handmade wares,
porcelains, crystals, etc. Following dinner and an appearance by
Elvis, the musical portion of the night began with the soulful sound
of The Moods, who had guests swinging and swaying to the sounds of
the 1950s and 60s.
(Board Chair Richard Brayer and his wife Lori,

According to Love Affair Chair Patricia Maroney, the event was the
opportune time to introduce the
There’s No Place like Home
initiative for the renovation of the Sasser Family House in Park
Ridge and other Avenues-supported homes.
“Love Affair is a time not only to celebrate the wonderful
friendships at Avenues, but a time to demonstrate one’s support of
the independence of the men and women of Avenues.” |
