Congratulations to
Floyd Kortenhof
Celebrating 30
Years with Avenues
When Floyd Kortenhof joined Avenues
1n 1979, the personnel office was in a bedroom in a house. The
accounting office was in another bedroom. Avenues had 20 residents.
Well, we’ve come a long way baby,
as they say. Over the next 30 years, Floyd and Avenues grew
together. Now our
program includes 250 participants
and 74 residents, and offices are no longer in bedrooms.
Starting as a training counselor,
Floyd mentored and worked one-on-one with the participants and still
does today. Officially known as a residential director, Floyd is
also affectionately called “Dad,” and has developed extremely close
bonds with our residents over the years. Much of Floyd’s career with
Avenues has been spent contributing to the successful development of
the people we serve.
“It’s very exciting to see them
going to the bank, taking public transportation, going grocery
shopping – using the tools to be self-sufficient that they were once
incapable of using – it’s very rewarding,” reflects Floyd.
