Public Safety Officials:
Crisis Intervention Training when dealing with
persons who have developmental disabilities
A 60-90 minute presentation is available for local
public safety agencies to train officers and first
responders on the issues associated with persons who
have developmental disabilities.
Topics covered will include:
Definition of developmental disabilities(DD);
Difference between DD and mental illnesses;
Autism spectrum disabilities;
Recognition of autism and DD behaviors;
Communication, intervention, and de-escalation
techniques;
Additional resources.
Basic training is provided free of charge to local
agencies in the Avenues service area. Honorariums
or contributions payable to Avenues to Independence
are always welcome to help offset costs.
