Illinois
Budget Travesty
On July 1, Governor Quinn announced details of the FY 2011 State Budget.
Because of the
Illinois fiscal crisis, on July 1st, the state will eliminate funding
for 24 individuals with disabilities living at Avenues.
In addition, llinois
will increase its payment cycle, delaying FY 10 payments another 6
months to December 31, 2010. Currently Avenues to Independence
is owed $1,400,000 for services dating back to November, 2009.
Statewide, millions
of dollars are owed to Human Service providers. Given our state's
current fiscal situation, many will not survive much longer.
Over the past 8
years, Illinois has underfunded important Human Service programs by
$4.4 Billion Dollars.
Many more will be in
jeopardy of a loss of services if the state continues its payment
delays.
