The Creative Avenues Art Program joined efforts with similar agencies on a collective project. The Global Peace Art Project is an organization that brings together groups or individuals through artwork. Together, participants share their talents and create a piece of art to represent their organizations and promote peace.
In March, Avenues Activities Coordinator Rafael Fontan organized a St. Patrick’s Day party with individuals from Center for Enriched Living, an organization similar to Avenues. The program participants from both organization enjoyed playing BINGO and dancing together.
Park Ridge Living Magazine hosted a Cinco de Mayo party at Don Juan's Cantina in Park Ridge and all proceeds from the event benefitted Avenues to Independence. Friends of Avenues, staff and program participants enjoy tasty food and took time to get to know their Park Ridge neighbors.
Avenues residents Kim and Charlie joined the Park Ridge Community Church (PRCC) to walk in the Chicago Pride Parade.
The 2022 Love Affair "A Passport to Possibilities" raised over $477,000 for job community employment. It was wonderful to finally be able to celebrate Avenues program participants in person and honor Michele Shoolin with the Jane & Albert Wohlers Visionary Award.
A new cooking class, led by staff members Gina Tenglin and Amy Landreth, began at the Center for Independence in the newly renovated state of the art kitchen. The goal of the class is to teach program participants life skills as well as creativity in the kitchen.
In August, Pam and Fred Sasser hosted the Sasser Society dinner at the Park Ridge Country Club. Guests celebrated the newest members, who have provided a future commitment to Avenues through their will, trust or estate plan, and honored and recognized members who have passed.
The Avenues Suburban Partnership Board hosted a BBQ for Avenues residents at Sasser Family House in Park Ridge. The residents played games, did crafts and ate hot dogs, chips and ice cream.
The PepsiCo Enable team hosted their annual picnic at the Sasser Family House and Herbst House in Park Ridge. They provide a great day for the Avenues residents including face painting, a visit from therapy dogs, pizza and BINGO with some awesome prizes.
In September The 34th Annual Avenues/ Gorman Golf & Tennis Classic raised more than $160,000 for new vans that will safely help our program participants get to work , go on outings, volunteer and be part of the community in every way.
The Avenues staff held the annual Thanksgiving lunch at the CFI in Wheeling. The meal is by the staff and was a full Thanksgiving meal, even the pumpkin pie.
Avenues hosted an annual holiday party to celebrate and bring a positive end to 2022.
