The Avenues to Independence Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Stephen Kray has been named as the next President & Chief Executive Officer of Avenues to Independence, effective Sept. 1, 2023. Stephen has over 16 years of experience in the human services field, 13 of those working with individuals with developmental disabilities. He has a willingness to do whatever it takes to get a job done, a thirst to learn more, and a sincere love for Avenues, our clients and our staff.

Stephen has been at Avenues for 13 years, and most recently served as Director of Residential Programs where he has successfully enhanced the quality of life for all the individuals we serve. He was instrumental in leading Avenues through the pandemic, he has implemented systems to enhance care for our clients and increase the efficiency of our staff, and he has continually worked to improve the quality and care of our homes.

Stephen represents an understanding of Intellectual/Developmental Disability services at all levels. Importantly, Stephen brings a deep respect for all professionals at Avenues to Independence, asserting that this success will be guided by his blend of leadership, strategic vision and passion for Avenues and the people we serve.

Stephen was born and raised in Schaumburg, IL, is married and has two young daughters. Stephen earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Augustana College. In addition, Stephen is an Illinois VIrtual Leadership Institute graduate and holds certifications in both Nonprofit Management and Nonprofit Financial Management.
